Best Best & Krieger LLP Partner Ruben Duran has been named to the Executive Committee for the Judicial Fairness Coalition (JFC). The JFC, part of the California Judges Association, is dedicated to promoting and fostering “the independence of our courts by providing education and resources about the judicial branch, conducting outreach in our communities, and responding to false and misleading information about judges and the judiciary.”

Duran, who recently completed a second one-year term as chair of the Board of Trustees of the State Bar of California, is thrilled to join the JFC’s Executive Committee to support its mission of helping the public better understand “the role of judges, the rule of law, ethical restrictions and responsibilities placed on judges, judicial selection and elections, qualifications that candidates should possess for judicial office as well as judicial independence.”

Managing Partner of the firm’s Ontario office, Duran is the city attorney in the cities of Fontana and Ontario, and general counsel to the Oxnard Harbor District (Port of Hueneme) and the Crescent City Harbor District. He also serves as board counsel to the Southern California Association of Governments and is a past president of the City Attorneys Association of Los Angeles County. Duran’s other community service includes sitting on the boards of the Institute for Local Government, Coro Southern California and the Southeast Arts and Cultural Foundation.

Duran’s work on the JFC’s Executive Committee will bring a new dimension to his public service aimed at ensuring a fair and responsive justice system in the State.
