Lisa A. Bell is a seasoned litigator who handles complex cases for business clients. Lisa has experience defending private sector employers and government contractor clients in the areas of commercial law, constitutional torts, employment law, insurance and real estate litigation matters.
In addition to corporate clients, Lisa also served as a general counsel for several local companies, advising on business litigation matters related to contract disputes, buy and sell agreements and restrictive covenants. Her Labor & Employment practice is quite extensive, spanning from multi-plaintiff class actions alleging sex or race discrimination to wrongful termination, wage-hour, disability and sexual harassment. She has advised businesses on government investigations, audits and regulatory and compliance reviews. Her government contracts practice consists of managing claims/payment matters, preference programs eligibility and challenges, compliance audits, internal investigations, public law and public-private partnerships.
Lisa’s business clients represent diverse industries: education, retail and hospitality to health care, real estate, development and construction to government contractors and technology.
Having handled some of Washington, D.C.’s most high-profile civil litigation, she is knowledgeable helping both municipal liability and corporate clients with crisis management. Her niche is crafting novel and creative remedial plans to protect clients and their business. As a partner in Best Best & Krieger LLP’s Labor & Employment practice group, in addition to litigation, Lisa provides advice and consultation; employee and stakeholder training; drafting & review of in-house employment programs and procedures and corporate governance.
Lisa served as a senior counsel and trial attorney in the D.C. Office of the Attorney General, where she managed, tried and supervised more than 100 matters. During her tenure in the AG’s Office, Lisa also served as general counsel to the D.C. deputy mayor for Planning and Economic Development and senior legal advisor to the D.C. zoning administrator. Her litigation experience includes federal and state court as well as administrative boards and federal agency reviews, such as U.S. Department of Labor, Office of Federal Contractor Compliance Program Compliance and alternative dispute resolution forums like mediation and arbitration.
