While attending the University of San Diego School of Law, Gina was an extern for the Chief Judge of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of California U.S. Bankruptcy Court. She also worked as a law clerk in the City Attorney’s Office for the City of Carlsbad.
 
Prior to earning her law degree, Gina was an assistant director at The Energy Coalition, where she worked with public agencies to implement energy-efficiency projects. She was also an administrative analyst for the Port of Long Beach, overseeing procurement and contract management for the Communications and Community Relations Division. Before working at the Port of Long Beach, Gina was a commissioned officer in the United States Coast Guard, serving as the assistant engineer officer aboard the USCGC JARVIS and later as a contingency planner and exercise coordinator for Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach.
 
Her education included Officer Candidate School at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, Conn., where she was commissioned. Gina also holds a single-engine private pilot's license.
