Best Best & Krieger LLP Partner and Director of PRA Services and E-Discovery Counsel Christine Wood was named to Profiles in Diversity Journal’s Black Leaders Worth Watching™ list. The list recognizes high-performing, purpose-driven professionals who create value for their colleagues, clients, community and the organizations where they contribute their talents.

In 2018, Wood launched the firm’s now flourishing ARC: Advanced Records Center, a client-service team that provides comprehensive and cost-effective support for records-related matters. Wood’s team is pivotal for California public agencies struggling with increased CPRA requests and ever-changing electronic records laws.

A Certified E-Discovery Specialist, Wood skillfully assists public agencies in developing procedures and best practices to support the preservation, collection and production of electronically stored information. She is experienced in forensic investigations, PRA, the Brown and Greene acts and school finance.

In addition to her trailblazing practice in public records matters, Wood is at the forefront of understanding the evolving laws regarding officers’ use-of-force and privacy concerns related to technology deployment. In January 2019, the California Legislature changed the laws that govern the release of police personnel records related to specific critical incidents. This effort to increase transparency in law enforcement has created significant burdens for law enforcement agencies, and Wood has led the effort to synthesize these shifts in the law so public safety clients can effectively comply.

In Wood’s Diversity Journal essay, she attributes much of her success in the legal field to mentors: “Mentors are pivotal to my professional success … I have had many mentors along the way who provided guidance and advice when the path seemed uncertain. Their support is absolutely critical … a mentor’s viewpoint may be just what you need to help you get through the nonsense and see the success that lies ahead.”
