LOS ANGELES – Gov. Jerry Brown has announced the re-appointment of Joseph P. Byrne, who is of counsel in Best Best & Krieger LLP’s Los Angeles office, to the California Water Commission. He has served on the Commission since 2010, and as its chair since January 2013.
The Commission consists of nine members who are charged with a number of statewide responsibilities related to water. Currently, one of the Commission’s most important tasks is preparing for the passage of a state water bond that is expected to contain funding for water storage projects.
“I am honored that the Governor has selected me to continue to serve on the Commission and I am looking forward to working with my colleagues on statewide water issues, especially at such a critical time for the State during the current drought,” Byrne said.
Byrne is a member of BB&K’s Environmental Law & Natural Resources, Municipal Law, Special Districts and Business Services practice groups. He provides general counsel services to both public and private clients and advises clients on a wide variety of water-related issues, including water rights and water-related agreements.
The appointment is subject to confirmation by the Senate.
