Employment Law 101

Every employment law practitioner needs to start somewhere. This conference is designed to provide the fundamentals necessary for attorneys who are entering the employment law practice. From harassment and workplace investigations to wage-and-hour analysis, attendees will be provided an overview of the topics commonplace to employment law.

"Leave Compliance"
The interplay between the various protected leaves available in California can create confusion even for a veteran practitioner. In this module, presenters will provide an overview of the Family Medical Leave Act, the California Family Rights Act, Pregnancy Disability Leave Law, the New Parent Leave Act, and many others. Special consideration will be given to the interplay and running of various leaves and the potential pitfalls in
1:15 - 2:45 p.m.

"Workplace Investigations"
Whether your practice is compliance-side or litigation, understanding the necessary components of a workplace investigation is critical to the practice of employment law. This module will review standards of proof for EEO investigations, union matters, contract employees and at-will employment. Also covered will be employee privacy concerns, best practices related to notice and employer restrictions regarding use of outside investigators, among other things.
