BB&K’s culture is one that respects differences and recognizes unique perspectives. BB&K is committed to recruiting, hiring, developing and promoting attorneys and staff of diverse backgrounds. With those goals in mind, BB&K is pleased to offer our First Year Law Student Diversity Fellowship/Scholarship Program. This program will provide the recipient with a paid summer associate position in one of our participating offices. To qualify for the $10,000 academic scholarship, the recipient student selected must be invited and must return to BB&K the following summer. The $10,000 scholarship will be paid following completion of the student’s second summer with BB&K.
The application period for our 2023 Summer Associate Program has closed.
Each year Best Best & Krieger participates in on-campus recruiting programs at a number of regional schools.
We typically visit six California law schools:
- Loyola Law School
- University of California, Los Angeles Law School
- University of California, Davis Law School
- University of California, Hastings College of the Law
- University of California, Irvine Law School, and
- University of Southern California Gould School of Law
Applications from students attending other law schools are also considered.
Our eight-week summer program is designed to give law students both a representative sampling of our firm’s diverse practice and the opportunity to get to know the attorneys in our firm.
We consider legal research and writing to be an important part of our summer program, but we also emphasize the inclusion of summer associates in such activities as client meetings, courtroom practice, public agency hearings and city council meetings. Another aim of our summer program is to acquaint summer associates with the cultural and recreational activities available in the general area. The firm hosts a variety of both formal and informal social events throughout the summer that provide participants with the opportunity to get to know our lawyers and their families.
BB&K has been successful in utilizing its summer program as our primary source for new associates. Each summer associate is assigned two mentors who help orient the summer associate to the firm’s practices. We conduct an individual in-person mid-summer review for each summer associate to dialogue with the student regarding his or her progress. Work assignments are carefully coordinated to ensure that work is evenly distributed and that summer associates work with as many attorneys as possible on a variety of matters. Assigning attorneys commonly provide constructive feedback on individual assignments.
We look forward to the opportunity to meet with highly-qualified students who are interested in discussing employment prospects.
