Best Best & Krieger’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Community Outreach group hosted its third annual Law 101 Day, in partnership with Assemblymember Eloise Reyes, to promote the interest and benefits of attending law school among high school students. There were 15 high school students who participated in the program at the University of La Verne College of Law (ULV) on Saturday, September 16, 2023.

Law 101 Day was developed in 2021 in collaboration with BBK Associates Albert Maldonado and Henry Castillo and the firm’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion committee to provide insight and information to high school students about the practice of law, specifically municipal law. This year, BBK partnered with current ULV law school students to share perspectives on their law school experiences from the application process, studying for the bar and more.

To help the students better understand the intricacies of the practice of law, they were assigned eminent domain legal fact patterns involving real world municipal law matters. The students had to develop a legal approach to their scenario and then present in front of a mock city council meeting, listening to respective teams present their proposed legal solutions.

The students also had the opportunity to network and connect with BBK attorneys Andrew Lopez, Andrew Saghian and Holland Stewart over lunch and learn about their law school journeys and entry into the legal profession.
