The California law firm of Best Best & Krieger LLP (BB&K) announces that five of its partners have been named to the San Diego Super Lawyers 2007 list. The honored attorneys are Bruce W. Beach for real estate law, James B. Gilpin for government and municipal law, Shawn D. Hagerty for land use and zoning law, Robert J. Hanna for real estate law, and Arlene Prater for labor and employment law.
Bruce Beach is a partner in BB&K’s eminent domain practice group. He specializes in eminent domain and property litigation. Beach has represented public and private clients in all aspects of eminent domain and condemnation proceedings, as well as other matters related to real property. He has worked on projects for road rights-of-way, pipelines, light rail transit corridors, reservoir sites, as well as redevelopment and flood control projects. He has also represented private individuals whose properties have been taken for public projects.
James Gilpin is a partner in BB&K’s eminent domain and municipal law practice groups. He practices civil litigation with an emphasis on real property litigation including eminent domain, construction and other public works litigation. Gilpin has represented clients in all phases of litigation including writ proceedings, jury and court trials, and appeals. He served as a legal consultant to the Appraisal Institute in the development of an eminent domain appraisal course and has been an eminent domain instructor for the International Right of Way Association. He also served as chairperson for the Eminent Domain Section of the San Diego County Bar Association.
Shawn Hagerty is a partner in BB&K's municipal and redevelopment law practice group. He is managing partner of the firm's San Diego office and city attorney for the City of Santee. Hagerty represents clients in both a general and special counsel role on a wide range of land use and zoning matters, including general plan, zoning, subdivision map and other land use regulatory matters. His work includes both advisory and litigation. In addition to his land use and zoning practice, Hagerty also serves as both general and special counsel on public entity real property issues, governance issues, elections and storm water matters.
Robert Hanna is a partner in BB&K’s real estate and litigation practice groups. His practice emphasizes real property, title insurance, trust, and general business litigation. Hanna has been an adjunct professor at the University of San Diego School of Law since 1985.
Arlene Prater is a partner in BB&K’s labor and employment practice group. She advises public and private employers on personnel and labor matters, and represents public and private employers in employment law litigation and administrative proceedings. Prater regularly handles discrimination, harassment and wrongful termination litigation in state and federal courts, as well as a wide range of other litigation involving the rights and obligations of employees and employers. She also advises and represents public and private clients on matters arising out of the collective bargaining process.
