Brant Dveirin is a litigation attorney in the Municipal Law and Environmental Law & Natural Resources Practice Groups of Best Best & Krieger LLP, in the firm's Los Angeles office.  He has handled litigation matters in the areas of environmental law, construction defects, general real estate and business litigation, land use, eminent domain and inverse condemnation.  His clients include public agencies, commercial/industrial and residential owners and developers, industrial and manufacturing businesses and commercial lenders.

Mr. Dveirin was counsel for the Los Angeles Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) on all litigation matters under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) related to the Staples Arena.  He represented the CRA on the eminent domain cases related to Staples where the failure to comply with CEQA was raised as an affirmative defense.  He was the CRA's appellate counsel on an eminent domain case involving issues of the use of project enhanced and improved comparable sales to value the subject empty lot.  He counseled the CRA on issues related to the environmental impact reports for the long awaited downtown Ralphs supermarket project, and the second Staples related development consisting of theater, restaurant, shopping and residential uses.

Mr. Dveirin represented Valero Energy Corporation on an eminent domain case involving the partial take of a gas station for street widening.  He was counsel for the Plastic Pipe Fittings Association (“PPFA”) in their challenge of the exclusion by the California Building Standards Commission and other State agencies, of PEX plastic pipe from the 2001 California Plumbing Code (“CPC”).  He has handled environmental cases involving alleged contamination due to nuclear waste, petroleum products, MTBE and other contaminants under CERCLA, RCRA, HSAA and California common law.

In addition, he represented a lender in a construction defect case on a condominium project where the lender allegedly caused the defects due to the bank’s lack of care during foreclosure and sale of the project.  He was counsel for other attorneys in a lawsuit resulting from the breakup of their law firm.  Throughout his career, Mr. Dveirin has handled a variety of commercial litigation matters for lenders, businesses and business professionals.   

Mr. Dveirin is a member of the Executive Committee of the Real Property Section of the Los Angeles County Bar Association, Cabinet of the Real Estate and Construction Division of the Los Angeles Jewish Federation, Executive Committee of the Moriah Society Real Estate Council of the University of Judaism and Board of Directors of the Los Angeles Business Counsel.  He speaks regularly to professional groups on issues related to boundary disputes, SLAPP suits and anti-SLAPP motions, and other business topics. 

Mr. Dveirin has been named by his peers to Super Lawyers Southern California Corporate Counsel Edition 2008 for business litigation and Super Lawyers Southern California 2007 for business litigation, land use and zoning, and government and municipal law.  He attended the National Institute of Trial Advocacy where he graduated from the Trial Advocacy Skills program.  He received his J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law in 1987, where he received an honorable mention for Best Oral Argument in the Moot Court Program.  During his third year of law school, he interned at the San Francisco District Attorney’s office.  He received his B.A. in Political Science from the University of California at Los Angeles in 1984.
