Dean Derleth is a Partner in the Municipal Law Practice Group and the Managing Partner of Best Best & Krieger LLP’s Los Angeles office.  He represents many municipal, school, and other public agency clients as general counsel and in areas such as land use, CEQA, the Williamson Act, risk management, public contracting, the California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS), and natural resources law.  He is known particularly for his expertise on CEQA, public works contracts and related contract and construction issues, as well as land use and development issues.

Mr. Derleth is the City Attorney for the City of Corona, the City of Colton and the City of Los Alamitos, and he performs Assistant and Deputy City Attorney services for numerous other cities.  He also provides general counsel and specialized legal services to many other special districts, school districts and other public agencies throughout California.

Mr. Derleth lectures and writes on issues which are important to his municipal school and public agency clients.  He has been very active in the community, especially in providing pro bono legal services through the Public Service Law Corporation of the Riverside County Bar Association, the Inland AIDS Project and the Inland Empire Latino Lawyers’ Association.  He has twice received recognition by the State Bar of California and the California State Legislature for pro bono excellence, and he has received the Pro Bono Attorney of the Year award from the Inland Empire Latino Lawyers’ Association.  Mr. Derleth has served his community on the Board of Directors of the American Heart Association, the Public Service Law Corporation of the Riverside County Bar Association and the Inland AIDS Project, and he volunteers his time in numerous other ways.

Mr. Derleth graduated with distinction from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law and was elected to the Order of the Coif, an international academic honor association.  He received his undergraduate degree in Economics from the University of California at Irvine where he graduated cum laude.  Mr. Derleth was born and raised in Southern California, and attended high school at St. John Bosco in Bellflower.  He has been married to his wife (Dawn) for approximately 15 years and has two sons (Gavin and Sam), and one daughter (Kennedy).
