Construction Litigation Practice
John Higginbotham is a Partner in the Litigation and Construction Practice Groups in Best Best & Krieger LLP’s Riverside office. He practices exclusively in the area of litigation, with an emphasis on construction litigation. Mr. Higginbotham is admitted to practice before all the State and Federal trial and appellate courts in the State of California.
Mr. Higginbotham has successfully litigated numerous cases involving construction defects, delays, false claims and other disputes for a variety of public and private sector clients, including the City of Corona, City of Azusa, City of Ontario, City of Colton, City of Merced, Riverside Unified School District, Jurupa Unified School District, Pomona Unified School District, Lucia Mar Unified School District, Victor Valley Wastewater Reclamation Authority, Century Homes, Richmond American Homes of California, Roller City Plus, the Mills Corporation, El Dorado Country Club Property Owners Association, and other public and private entities.
These and other construction litigation matters have ranged from single unit residential cases to large public works projects valued at upwards of $10 million. Several of these matters have been tried to verdict, including a recent case in which a month-long jury trial culminated in a complete defense verdict for Mr. Higginbotham’s contractor client and a substantial judgment on his cross-complaint. Mr. Higginbotham has represented both owners and contractors, and both plaintiffs and defendants.
Mr. Higginbotham joined Best Best & Krieger LLP in 1999 as a first year associate. He graduated cum laude from Brigham Young University’s J. Reuben Clark Law School in 1999, and concurrently earned a Masters of Business Administration from BYU’s Marriott School of Management. While in law school, he was a member of BYU’s National Moot Court Team, and was named Best Oralist in the second-year Moot Court competition. Mr. Higginbotham also received his undergraduate degree from Brigham Young University, with a major in Economics.
Mr. Higginbotham lives in Riverside with his wife and two children. He is an active participant and member of the State Bar of California, the Federal Bar Association and the Riverside County Bar Association. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Riverside County Chapter of the American Red Cross as a member of its executive committee and as chair of its human resources committee. He also serves as a member of the Board of the Riverside County Bar Association, and as President of the Riverside County Barristers.
